Today I met two wonderful little boys named Noel and Kyle.
I was working in the nursery of my church when a two-year-old boy rammed the Thomas the Train he was riding into my leg. I played along for a few minutes and then I heard another little voice yell, “Kyle!” A second little boy came running over and tackled the boy sitting in front of me, hugging him and kissing all over his face. Kyle then left me to go play with his friend.
About fifteen minutes later, the two boys came back towards me, each pushing an empty baby stroller. I asked them why they were empty and Noel looked up at me sadly and said, “Because no one will give us any babies.” I went to go get them each a baby doll when I heard Kyle say, “Noel, what about a mommy?” I stopped moving to hear what the boys had to say. Noel looked at Kyle and said matter-of-factly, “We don’t need one.”
I brought the baby dolls over to the boys and Noel took them. As I was walking away, I heard Noel say, “See? These are our babies. We don’t need a mommy to take care of them because we can do it ourselves.”
